Sexual Issues that Students Talk about in Family and Avoiding of Sexuality

Öz

This study aimed to examine the sexual issues that students talk about in the family and their avoidance of sexuality by gender. This descriptive study was conducted with 272 nursing students in a university's 2021-2022 academic year. The Personal Information Form collected the data, Decisional Balance Scale for Sexual Abstinence, Self-Efficacy Scale for Sexual Abstinence, and Weighted Topics Measure of Family Sexual Communication. Female students mainly discussed menstruation with their mothers (86.2%) and fathers (15.2%). Men mainly discussed abortion (13.1%) with their mothers and sexual intercourse with their fathers (15.5%). The Women's Self-Efficacy Scale for Sexual Abstinence scores (25.21±3.91) were statistically significantly higher than men's scores (21.07±5.32) (p<0.05). Also, the external benefit perception scores of women (15.14±3.34) were considerably higher than men (13.08±3.43) (p<0.05). However, men's perception of harm score (17.86±5.60) was significantly higher than women's (16.09±5.18) (p<0.05). Women's Weighted Topics Measure of Family Sexual Communication scores with the mother (12.95±9.53) were significantly higher than men (6.09±5.75) (p<0.001). Communication scores with the father were similar (p>0.05). Moreover, a significant positive relationship was found between the perception of internal and external benefits in men students who talked about sexual issues with their mothers (p<0.05). The perception of harm in women had no significant relationship with communication with their fathers (p>0.05). The parent that students prefer to discuss sexuality with is mostly their mothers. This may have a positive effect on students' sexual avoidance. It is also recommended that students increase their communication with their father.

Öğrencilerin Aile İçerisinde Konuşulan Cinsel Konular ile Cinsellikten Kaçınma Durumları

Öz

Bu araştırma, öğrencilerin aile içinde konuştukları cinsel konuları ve cinsellikten kaçınma durumlarını cinsiyete göre incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Tanımlayıcı türde olan çalışma bir üniversitenin 2021-2022 öğretim yılında eğitim gören 272 hemşirelik bölümü öğrencisi ile yapılmıştır. Veriler Kişisel Bilgi Formu, Cinsellikten Kaçınma Karar Dengesi Ölçeği, Cinsellikten Kaçınma Öz yeterlilik Ölçeği ve Aile içinde Ağırlıklı Olarak Konuşulan Cinsel Konular Ölçeği ile toplanmıştır. Kadın öğrenciler anneleri (%86.2) ve babaları (%15.2) ile çoğunlukla menstruasyon hakkında konuşmaktadır. Erkekler anneleri ile en fazla kürtaj (%13.1) babaları ile cinsel ilişki (%15.5) ile ilgili konuşmaktadır. Kadınların Cinsellikten Kaçınma Öz yeterlilik Ölçeği puanları (25.21±3.91) erkeklerinkinden (21.07±5.32) fazladır (p<0.05). Kadınların Cinsellikten Kaçınma Karar Dengesi Ölçeği dışsal yarar algısı puanı (15.14±3.34) erkeklerden (13.08±3.43) yüksek iken (p<0.05) erkeklerin zarar algısı puanı (17.86±5.60) kadınlarınkinden (16.09±5.18) fazladır (p<0.05). Kadınların Aile içinde Ağırlıklı Olarak Konuşulan Cinsel Konular Ölçeği anne ile iletişim puanları (12.95±9.53) erkeklerden (6.09±5.75) fazladır (p<0.001). Baba ile iletişim puanları ise benzerdir (p>0.05). Erkek öğrencilerde anne ile cinsel konularda iletişim ile içsel ve dışsal yarar algısı arasında kadınlarda ise zarar algısı arasında pozitif yönlü ilişki tespit edilirken (p<0.05), baba ile iletişim arasında anlamlı bir ilişki belirlenmemiştir (p>0.05). Öğrencilerin cinsellik ile ilgili konuşmayı tercih ettiği ebeveyni çoğunlukla anneleridir. Bu durumun öğrencilerin cinsel kaçınmaları üzerinde olumlu etkisi olabilir. Ayrıca öğrencilerin baba ile iletişimin artırılması önerilir.
